Richard Lee Fields, age 47, of North Vernon, went to be with Jesus his Savior, on Friday, April 3, 2009 at Columbus Regional Hospital.

Richard enjoyed fishing, antique cars, spending time with his family, and was very talented in oil painting. Richard was a role model for many with his strong faith and endurance for the Lord. Richard loved visiting and ministering to the church family at Bethel Baptist Church, where he served as Deacon. Most of all, Richard dearly loved his Lord.

Richard was born on October 15, 1961 in Seymour, Indiana to parents Wilma (Jim) Forbes, and Roy (Joyce) Fields. His father passed away in 2003. Richard was a 1980 graduate of Seymour High School, and on March 7, 1981, Richard married Marvina "Mel" Gay and just recently celebrated their 28th anniversary. Richard was most proud of their 2 sons, Christopher, age 22, and Timothy, age 18, who both reside at home.

Richard served our country proudly by completing 10 years in the USAF before developing cancer. Richard went on, despite years of struggling health, to complete his associate's degree in business management at Ivy Tech.

Richard was also survived by a sister, Linda (Mark) Everroad of North Vernon, a brother, Kevin (Amy) Rosemeyer of California, and step-brothers, Kevin Engleking and Jamie Forbes of Jackson County, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 7, 2009 at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home. There will be a Funeral Service at Bethel Baptist Church on Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. with the Reverends Jon Beck, John Contreras and Joe Mayes officiating. Burial will follow at Uniontown Baptist Church Cemetery.

Memorial may be given through the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home to the American Red Cross of San Antonio, Texas, where the family was supported during cancer treatments, or the Because We Care Ministry at Bethel Baptist Church.
