LaVerne Smith, 82, of North Vernon, Indiana passed away at 12:10 p.m. on Thursday, June 25, 2009 at St. Frances Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana
Mrs. Smith was born on October 9, 1926 in Mitchell, Indiana she was the daughter of the late Ray and Jewell Murray Anderson. She married Joseph Houston Smith on February 22, 1948 in Columbus, Indiana. He preceded her in death on November 1, 2008.
Mrs. Smith retired in 1976 from Jay C Grocery Store in North Vernon, Indiana. She was previously employed with Danner's Department Store in North Vernon, Indiana. She attended Jennings Church of Christ in North Vernon, Indiana. Her hobbies included needlepoint, embroidering, music, dancing, and spending time with her kids and grandkids.
Survivors include two sons, Jerry Smith of Hayden, Indiana and Keith ( Michelle) Smith of North Vernon, Indiana; three daughters, Terry (Mike) Schwacke, Gail (Jerry) Sharp and Charlene (Amos) Sharp all of North Vernon, Indiana; fourteen grandchildren, Jason (Shauwna) Baldwin of Columbus, Indiana, Joshua Baldwin of Clarksville, Indiana, Roy Sharp of Scipio, Indiana, Rusty (Debbie) Sharp, Tony (Gega) Sharp, Tonya (Kevin) Rogers, Jeremy Sharp, Joey (Jenny) Baldwin, Shannon (Matt) Bauguess, Brooke (John) Gatrell, Kelsey (Kyle) Sutton, Kirby Smith, Kensley Smith and Alicia Carpenter all of North Vernon, Indiana; Seventeen great-grandchildren; ten great-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Herb (Jen) Anderson of Tennessee, Roger ( Phyllis) Anderson of Ohio and Steve Anderson of North Vernon, Indiana; five sisters, Juanita Hern of Seymour, Indiana, Betty Winkler of Florida, Norma Robertson of Arizona, Linda (Dewayne) Wilson and Helen Hall of North Vernon, Indiana.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son Dennis Smith, brothers, Roy Anderson and Richard Anderson and sister, Marylin Wells
Funeral Services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, June 29, 2009 at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home with the Rev. Marcus Spear officiating. Friends may call on Sunday, June 28, 2009 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and 1 hour prior to the service on Monday. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery in Vernon, Indiana.
