Kathleen L. "Kate" Carney, 83, of Vernon passed away at 4:50 p.m. on Saturday, June 27, 2009 at the Covered Bridge Health Campus in Seymour, Indiana.

Mrs. Carney was born on February 19, 1926 the daughter of Vandiver and Viola Coryea Dowell. She married Paul Carney on February 22, 1947. He preceded her in death on March 20, 1993.

Mrs. Carney was a Registered Nurse for Schneck Medical Center in Seymour, Indiana retiring in 1989 after 30 plus years. In 1944 she graduated from North Vernon High School and in 1947 graduated from St. Joseph's Infirmary Nurses Training in Louisville, Kentucky. Her hobbies included camping, reading, crossword puzzles, and spending time with her family.

Surviving are, four sons, Alan (Phyllis), Blain (Mary), and Glen (Debbie) Carney all from North Vernon, Indiana, and Philip Carney from Commiskey, Indiana; two daughters, Linda (Phil) Swords of Vernon, Indiana and Paula (Randy) Bennett of North Vernon, Indiana; two sisters, Joyce Hubbard and Wanda (Bill) Smock all from Vernon, Indiana; ten grandchildren, Kelly (Troy) Stockelman and Kara ( Steve) Huber all from Vernon, Indiana, Amy (Bill) Tuttle of Columbus, Indiana, Todd (Sara) Carney of Medora, Indiana, Jeff Carney of Seymour, Indiana, Josh (Jennifer), Andy (Stacey), Tiernan, and Kamron Carney and Jason Bennett all of North Vernon, Indiana; Twenty-one great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother, Paul Dowell; four sisters, Mary Wilds, Maxine Patrick, Naomi Scroggins and an infant sister.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 1, 2009 at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Sorrels and Rev. Don Morris officiating. Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery.

Memorials may be made though Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home to Schneck Medical Center, American Diabetes Assoc. or Vernon Baptist Church.
