Sarah Kathleen Engelking, 89, of North Vernon, Indiana passed away at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, October 4, 2009 at her daughter's residence. Born June 20, 1920 in Jennings County, Indiana, she was the daughter of Cord and Mary Weekley Lawrence. She was widowed from her first husband, James Spaulding, and her second husband, Harold Engelking. Ms. Engelking was a housewife and a homemaker. She was a 1938 graduate of Columbus High School in Columbus, Indiana. She enjoyed listening to music, play cards, and puzzle books. Survivors include 5 sons- Timothy (Roberta) Spaulding and Robert (Debbie) Wilhite, both of North Vernon, IN, Norman "Butch" (Judy) Spaulding and Samuel Spaulding, both of Seymour, IN, and Bennet (Cindy) Smith of Butlerville, IN; 2 daughters- Minnie (Douglas) Johnson of Seymour, IN, and Mary (Donny) Napier of North Vernon, IN; 22 grandchildren; 50 great grandchildren; and several great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by both her husbands, James Spaulding and Harold Engelking; 2 sons- James Lawrence and David Spaulding; 2 brothers- Emerson and Clarence Lawrence; 6 sisters- Minnie Leasure, Florence "Pete" Newman, Violet Lawrence, Penny Shoemake, Dollie Monday, and Martha Storm; and 2 grandchildren- Carla Jo and Tommy Spaulding. Funeral Services for Sarah will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral home with Rev. William Ramey officiating. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, October 6, 2009 at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home. Burial will be at Vernon Cemetery in Vernon, IN.
