Estel Smith, Sr., 60, of Shelbyville, Indiana formerly of Deputy, Indiana passed away at 10:05 a.m. on Friday, April 9, 2010 at Heritage House in Shelbyville, Indiana.
Mr. Smith was born on August 12, 1949 in Carrie, Kentucky the son of Bud and Herma Slone Smith. Mr. Smith attended Lancaster Baptist Church in Lancaster, Indiana. He was a 1967 graduate of North Vernon High School. He served during the Vietnam era in the U.S. Army. He was a former member of Matt Hester Post #2021 V.F. W. in North Vernon, Indiana. His hobbies included woodcarving, leather working, fishing and painting portraits.
Survivors include his wife, Susan Moody Smith of Shelbyville, Indiana; five sons, David Allen (Lisa) Paul, Anthony Joseph Paul, Leroy Cliff Paul all of Knoxville, Tennessee, David Alan Massie of Madison, Indiana and Estel Smith, Jr. of Columbus, Indiana; one daughter, April Lynn (Mike) Wooten of North Vernon, Indiana; two brothers, Denver Smith of North Vernon, Indiana and Henry (Lottie) Smith of Martinsville, Indiana; three sisters, Juanita Paul of Knoxville, Tennessee, Greta (Clayton) Bradshaw of Deputy, Indiana and Aileen Myers of Brazoria, Texas; nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother,.
Funeral Service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 12, 2010 at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home with the Rev. Aubrey Bessenger officiating. Friends may call on Sunday, April 11, 2010 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Monday. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery with members of Matt Hester Post #2021, V.F.W. providing Military graveside rites.
